Sweetest Geek Spot in the Midwest: The 1984 Arcade (Pacman Lovers Rejoice)

Did you inadvertently plan a trip around, to, or through Springfield Missouri? Do you live within an hour and want something to do on a lonely Saturday night? Are you an old school gamer geek in need of a Mecca? Then have I found the place for you! The 1984 Arcade is your one-stop (and one price) shop for all things 1984 Arcade.1984 Arcade

The old school game collectors that started the 1984 arcade have created a monument to the arcades of ol’, with a host of restored games. They tried to recreate the feel with everything from having most games in their original cabinets, music and commercials of the 80’s playing, and also a decor filled with knick-knacks from two decades ago. The only difference is: the price. No pumping quarters into these machines (unless you want 25-cent pinball); an entire day’s worth of vintage gaming heaven can be had for a mere $5 at the door!

For a glimpse at their game list take a peak at their prestigious High Scores List, and you will immediately notice classics from 1942, to vector games ala asteroids, to one of my personal favorites, Ms. Pacman. There’s one more amazing thing to notice on that list: some of the high scores are as vintage as the cabinets themselves.1984 Revisited

I highly recommend checking out their site at www.1984arcade.com to learn more and see the gallery, and if you’re ever in the area, stop by for a visit. Also, check out Hak.5’s latest video podcast for an awe-filled walk-through.
